The History of Chi Kung (Qigong)
For many centuries Chi Kung has been considered “the secret to a long, healthy and happy life”. No other exercise program helps to cleanse and strengthen the internal organs like Chi for Health© Chi Kung. Following the Chi for Health© Chi Kung program can benefit the muscles, bones, joints and skin to create a comprehensive internal and external program for health and longevity.

Chi Kung has been practiced in various forms for over 3000 years, and its history is well documented in both medical and martial arts disciplines. Chi Kung was frequently used to treat internal disorders and disease usually combined with a prescription of herbs. For external injuries, such as broken bones, torn muscles or ligaments and even skin conditions, practicing Chi Kung has been a vital part of the healing process.

The origin of the “Chi for Health©” Chi Kung program.
Over 300 years ago a Shaolin monk named Som Dat (Dot Bo) created the system known today as Southern Praying Mantis. The second Master of this system was Great, Great, Grand Master Lee Shiem See. When Great, Great Grand Master Lee Shiem See, or otherwise referred to as Hung Mui Wo Shing, came to Southern Praying Mantis (from Wodong Temple) he was already a highly accomplished Kung Fu master. Great, Great Grand Master Lee Shiem See used his knowledge to develop the Ting Sing Gung (Chi Kung) of the Southern Praying Mantis System.

Great, Great Grand Master Lee Shiem See shared this knowledge with his disciple and the next Master of the system, Great Grand Master Lam Sang See. Great Grand Master Lam Sang See carried on this knowledge and eventually passed it on to Grandmaster Henry Poo Yee.

Grandmaster Henry Poo Yee is the keeper of the flame for this system of Kung Fu and Chi Kung. Grand Master Yee has trained Kung Fu since the age of six, and continues with a rigorous daily practice even today. Grand Master Henry Poo Yee is the Founder and Grand Master of C.K.F.A. (Chinese Kung Fu Academy U.S.A.). Today he lives in Houston, Texas where he has a dedicated following of many generations of students.

Sifu Jeff Larson, Founder of Chi for Health©, studied under Grand Master Henry Poo Yee. Since learning this Chi Kung Sifu Jeff has trained it daily for almost 20 years. Sifu Jeff has taught Chi Kung in numerous workshops and at corporations such as Northrop Grumman, which included employees from the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Sifu Jeff has also trained numerous private students and is the only Sifu permitted to certify instructors in the “Chi for Health©” Chi Kung program. Sifu Jeff has also taught this Chi Kung to instructors from other disciplines, including other martial arts systems who were seeking to enhance their art and enjoy a long and healthy life.
